SUMMARY:SACRED SITES AUDIO BOOK LAUNCH PARTY
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends\, \nWith my heart brimming with appreciation for your support\, I am thrilled to announce that we will launch our Sacred Sites Audio Theater via Zoom on Saturday\, March 6\, at 5PM PST! \nOur team has worked for a year\, with support from so many of you\, to create what we feel is an audio performance that speaks to the heart of the current climate and social crises and summons us to live in balance with all beings. As Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gary Snyder writes in his foreword (read by Peter Coyote): This book “brings us home.” \nPlease join our celebration sponsored by 18th Street Art Center! It’s going to be a joyful show! Meet the cast and crew\, hear clips from the book\, experience Sacred Sites presented in the oral tradition which is its source. Though there is much left to do to bring this work fully into the world\, now is the time to stir up a party! \nRegister right away! https://us02web.zoom.us/…/reg…/WN_jfvznkHpRUysh-jLwffbHA \n Please post and share with your friends and family. All are welcome! \nWith gratitude! \nSusan

DESCRIPTION:Dear Friend\, A new year and new opportunities abound for us to link arms with the oncoming spring. Let us take up with our hearts and hands the fundamental human tasks of renewing the world\, renewing the balance! \nA CHORAL QUILT OF HOPE: THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS \nYou may remember that I adapted the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR)as a poem and that award-winning composer Adrienne Albert’s set it as a choral work (adriennealbert.com). Last year\, the magnificent Concord Chorale of Concord\, New Hampshire was in rehearsals to sing the complete composition with orchestral accompaniment when the pandemic cut it short. \n  \nNow\, they are presenting their first concert of the year.  Join us this weekend as they sing the PREAMBLE to A CHORAL QUILT OF HOPE! \n(https://concordchorale.org/) \nConcord Chorale’s 2020-2021 Virtual SEASON \nWHEN THE NIGHT IS FURTHEST WORN\nA Free Virtual Concert by Concord Choral\nSaturday\, January 23\, 2021 at 7:00pm  4:00pm PST\nSunday\, January 24\, 2021 at 3:00pm    Noon     PST\n* a link to each performance will be posted on our homepagehttp://: https://concordchorale.org/ \n* Performance times are Eastern Standard Time \nRosephanye Powell\, Non Nobis Domine \nMorten Lauridsen\, Sure on This Shining Night (James Agee) \nSergi Rachmaninov\, Bogoroditse Devo \n  \nAdrienne Albert\, Preamble to A Choral Quilt of Hope\,\ntext adapted by Susan Suntree \nhttps://concordchorale.org/NOTE FROM JENNY COOPER\, MUSICAL DIRECTOR \nEven though I desperately wish we could be singing together in person this fall\, I am genuinely excited about our plans for virtual singing and the music we will make.  Our concert title is “When the Night is Furthest Worn\,” which is pulled from the text of a new work that we will sing by African American composer Marques L. A. Garrett\, entitled “My Heart Be Brave.”  The program follows us metaphorically from seemingly endless\, ruthless night to a just and bright dawn.  The music I chose is music that makes me want to sing\, to sing from my toes all the way up to the sky. \nAs we live through this unprecedented time in our current history\, there remain many unknowns. However\, the Concord Chorale believes in the power of music and will continue to the best of our ability to fulfill our mission to bring outstanding choral music to the Capital Region and its communities. \nThe Chorale has been rehearsing online via Zoom communications. Technology has allowed us to prepare and present our free Virtual Concert in January 2021. We will resume virtual rehearsals in February 2021 for our second concert of our 2020-2021 season. More details to come! \nThe Chorale wishes you well and hopes you will keep a song in your heart as we walk forward with great optimism. \nMembers Area \nJoin Us on Facebook \nDonate Now \nAudition Info \n© 2020 Concord Chorale          P.O. SUMMARY:SACRED SITES READING
DESCRIPTION: On 15 May at 7 PM (see flyer for map)\, I’m giving a presentation of Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California for the Santa Susana Mountain Parks Association. Free and open to the public. Bring a book to have signed! I’ll also have a few available (cash or check) after the reading. Please join us! \n Preserving and protecting the Santa Susana Mountains and Simi Hills of Southern California \nUpcoming Events \nMonday May 15\, 2017   7:00pm \n\nSSMPA COMMUNITY MEETINGS     \nCommunity Meetings are free to SSMPA Members and the Public \nRockpointe Clubhouse: 22300 Devonshire Street\, Chatsworth\, CA 91311 \n(On the south side\, one block before entrance to Chatsworth Park South) \nClick here for map \nSacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California   by Susan Suntree Poet\, Performer\, Essayist   I will tell the story of the formation of the landscape\, including the Santa Susana Mountains and the Simi Hills\, from the Big Bang/Great Silence to the present from the points of view of Western science and Indigenous myths and songs. These are the stories of the First People and of unforgettable shamans and heroes. Slide show included. http:www.susansuntree.com/ \nThe SSMPA works to preserve the unique landscape of the Simi Hills where some of the most important indigenous sacred sites are located (the Burro Flats winter and summer solstice ceremonial sites\, among others\, which I write about in Sacred Sites). Rocket engines that flew to the moon\, among other military projects\, were tested here–a complicated legacy whose remnants must be seen for the history to be grasped. And the land itself is authentic Southern California wild beauty with abundant natural life— a rarity and a treasure that must be protected.
