freeDear Friend, A new year and new opportunities abound for us to link arms with the oncoming spring. Let us take up with our hearts and hands the fundamental human tasks of renewing the world, renewing the balance!
A CHORAL QUILT OF HOPE: THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
You may remember that I adapted the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR)as a poem and that award-winning composer Adrienne Albert’s set it as a choral work (adriennealbert.com). Last year, the magnificent Concord Chorale of Concord, New Hampshire was in rehearsals to sing the complete composition with orchestral accompaniment when the pandemic cut it short.
Now, they are presenting their first concert of the year. Join us this weekend as they sing the PREAMBLE to A CHORAL QUILT OF HOPE!

https://concordchorale.org/NOTE FROM JENNY COOPER, MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Even though I desperately wish we could be singing together in person this fall, I am genuinely excited about our plans for virtual singing and the music we will make. Our concert title is “When the Night is Furthest Worn,” which is pulled from the text of a new work that we will sing by African American composer Marques L. A. Garrett, entitled “My Heart Be Brave.” The program follows us metaphorically from seemingly endless, ruthless night to a just and bright dawn. The music I chose is music that makes me want to sing, to sing from my toes all the way up to the sky.
As we live through this unprecedented time in our current history, there remain many unknowns. However, the Concord Chorale believes in the power of music and will continue to the best of our ability to fulfill our mission to bring outstanding choral music to the Capital Region and its communities.
The Chorale has been rehearsing online via Zoom communications. Technology has allowed us to prepare and present our free Virtual Concert in January 2021. We will resume virtual rehearsals in February 2021 for our second concert of our 2020-2021 season. More details to come!
The Chorale wishes you well and hopes you will keep a song in your heart as we walk forward with great optimism.
